Communications Associate

Uma is a deeply community-driven storyteller and digital organizer who is committed to leveraging digital tools to build movements for social, economic, and racial justice in the East Bay. As EBASE’s Communications Associate, Uma works closely with both campaign and organizational development teams to strengthen internal systems and develop content to further EBASE’s campaigns. As a lifelong East Bay resident, she is deeply committed to building communities that embody her values of care and liberation.

Uma is a graduate of Scripps College, where she digitally organized students and faculty to fight for academic accessibility and equity during the COVID-19 pandemic and raised over $180,000 for student mutual aid with Nobody Fails at Scripps, a student-run mutual aid collective. She was also a leader of the prison abolition collective, organizing political education workshops on a range of subjects including transformative justice and alternatives to policing.

Uma draws great inspiration from her community and her loved ones, who have deeply informed her work and life. In her free time, you can find Uma playing with her cat, making clothes, or watching reality TV.
