Measure Z’s new wage increase took effect on July 1, 2019. All hotel workers in Oakland will now receive $15 / hour with health benefits or $20 / hour without health benefits.
On July 1st, hotel workers in Oakland got a well-deserved pay increase!
Last fall, EBASE fought alongside these workers to win the campaign to pass Measure Z at the ballot with 76% of the vote. This groundbreaking new law protects hotel workers from sexual assault, inhumane workloads, and wage theft.
On July 1st, 2019, Measure Z’s new wage provisions kicked in: now hotel workers will receive $15/hour with employer-provided health benefits or $20/hour without benefits.
This bump brings hotel workers’ paychecks that much closer to an actual living wage, allowing them to care for their families, resist displacement, and stay in their homes.
Changing the law was just half the battle. With your support, EBASE and our coalition partners are busy making sure Oakland’s workers are educated, organized, and able to defend their rights!
We’ve also been busy winning funding for the Department of Workplace and Employment Standards, a new city department created by Measure Z to enforce all of Oakland’s labor laws.
Together we’re ensuring that all working people in our Town can earn a living wage with dignity.
