Through EBASE’s long-term agenda, we commit to a far-reaching vision of the world we dream of and to the ongoing practice of visioning as a way to radically reimagine and ground ourselves in what is possible.
We envision a world with an economic system that honors human dignity and is in harmony with nature and all beings. Each person’s contributions and labor are meaningful, in service to the collective, and are connected by a shared responsibility for one another.
We envision a future of loving, safe communities, with secure, beautiful homes, surrounded by abundant access to nature and culture. All services required to thrive in our communities are accessible, free, and viewed as essential human rights.
We envision a world free of “-isms,” in which we make choices to mend past atrocities and ongoing oppression by prioritizing Indigenous communities and Black liberation.
We build and harness our power in our workplaces, neighborhoods, faith communities, unions, and government. Organizing is highly valued as a means of engaging all people and as a transformational act in itself. We build and share power in alliances, and as a result, everyone’s needs are met.
Together, in a participatory democracy that serves the common good, we craft solutions to challenges and create systems of care and resource-sharing. We elect community leaders and build institutions of government centered in these values and practices.
We envision a future that values every human, not despite but because of the many identities that make us who we are. We know we are loved, and we have time to love. Everyone can rest, create, and build community together. We all have the grace and resources to live in joy and to build abundance for the next seven generations.
Movement work is challenging, and the goal of dismantling systemic oppression is multi-generational. We must embrace values that support us to be in community with each other as people, as an organization, with partners, and in the world. In creating and carrying out this long-term agenda, EBASE centers the values of:
We understand that the road to our vision could be filled with obstacles but we know our vision is worth our tenacity. We embody tenacity through our steadfast commitment to achieving shared goals. We are persistent and creative in our determination to find a way forward, despite obstacles.
We bring love & compassion to this work through empathy and care for humanity and the Earth. It shapes how we interact with each other because we are rooted in the belief in that everyone holds goodness. We create coalitions and collaborative spaces where we build trust and hold conflict with care. Centering love and compassion, we do not perpetuate harm and violence and and we work to dismantle those systems.
We are deliberate, purposeful, and mindful of our thoughts and actions, personally and organizationally. We seek alignment of our personal values with the way we engage in our work. We take time to reflect, learn, and adapt our strategies, practices and actions.
Hope is a practice that facilitates grace and guides us back to vision. It allows us to radically reimagine the world & create systems that are inclusive and just. We give ourselves space to dream & celebrate and we depend on hope to keep us on track for the long haul. We know that the change we seek may not be realized in our lifetimes but with each step forward we move with hope for a better East Bay. We use hope to stay resilient, even in difficult moments.
Collaboration and shared responsibility means understanding that we need each other to achieve our vision. We understand the power of working together, sharing knowledge, resources, and expertise to achieve common goals. It recognizes that collective efforts and cooperation can lead to better outcomes, innovation, and mutual growth.
