Calling All Worker-Speaker Accompaniers!
Be a part of the exciting effort to connect workers with faith-based communities across the East Bay! Over the weekend of September 12th-14th, workers will be traveling to churches and synagogues to share their stories with the congregations. We are looking for volunteers to accompany the workers over this weekend, particularly on Sunday morning!

Oakland Army Base: National Model in Creating Good Jobs for Residents
On August 8, 2008, over 70 grassroots leaders and advocates from over 10 campaigns gathered in Oakland for a day-long convening on military base reuse and community benefits entitled “Base-Building: Using Former Military Sites to Achieve Community Benefits and Revitalize Local Economies.” Participants heard about community benefits tools, discussed base reuse processes across California, and got a "behind the scenes" look at the former Oakland Army Base, a 108-acre site slated for redevelopment.

Part toolkit and part reference guide for local government officials and staff, the "Building a Better Bay Area" report describes how responsible development orients the benefits of new development toward the greatest needs of a community, and helps communities achieve higher standards and benefits from real estate and economic development projects. Coalition for Clean and Safe Ports: August Update!
The July 22 March and Rally for "Good Jobs & Clean Air" was a great success! More than 2,000 people took to the streets to demonstrate our commitment to good, green jobs at the Port of Oakland. Nearly every major media outlet reported on the March and Rally. Our campaign to reduce air pollution and improve working conditions at the Port is gaining steam!
